Hi Chris,
Fingernail then damp tissue, water only as I don't put anything else on a rod until the finish is on and set. ESFNEM Col Port Kembla, NSW Australia Re: Removing china marker

Hoping someone will have a trick for this. The best I've found is DNA with a finger nail, and/or microfiber cloth. Gonna try a natural gum eraser next time I find one. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/16/2013 09:24AM by Don Ahart. Re: Removing china marker

I just roll up a bit of paper towel and rub them off. Re: Removing china marker

I've used "goo gone" before but don't like to to use that stuff on an unfinished rod... I have, instead of my fingernail and a wet cloth, used the tip of a dental tool on top of a thin paper towel. This gives you a smaller pressure point but be carful to not scratch the blank. Re: Removing china marker

I say skip the China marker and use a pencil, your finger or light rub with alcohol and paper towel and it comes right off. ______________________________________ Super Tight Lines......Don Re: Removing china marker

Chris,
A simple solution is to not use a china marker, but just use low tack blue painters tape. The tape doesn't leave any residue and comes right off as long as you don't leave the tape on the blank/rod for a long time. Re: Removing china marker

Just tried an eraser it takes it right off completely in a few rubs. Re: Removing china marker

Staedtler Mars plastic erasers, no grit in the eraser to mar the finish, lasts for years, mine is going on 15 years. Re: Removing china marker

I use a thin rubber band, cleaned in DNA. Like thread, just run it over the mark and it comes right off. Once you do a few, you might see some marker residue left on the rod. Just clean it again with DNA, or move to another spot on the rubber band.
Using blue tape is also a good alternative. T2 Re: Removing china marker

I use a Dry Eraser Marker. It wipes away with a q-tip on the unfished blanks and with your finger on the hi-gloss finihsed blanks.
