Missed ratio

Just finished up a kit of Quickbond and found that the hardener jar still has a pretty good glob in it but the resin jar is completely empty. I try to be as accurate as possible eyeballing this stuff but must have been off more than a few times. But all the epoxy jobs seem to have set well and are holding up. Should I assume that the gel epoxies are not quite as critical on ratio as the thread epoxies are?

I've had the same thing happen. I'm considering weighing before mixing but don't know if I can use the same 1:1 ratio. I know with some laminating epoxies if you are weighing the ratio is significantly different than measuring. Anyone know about Quickbond?

Ralph said the margin for error with either RodBond or QuickBond is up to 60/40 so you shouldn't have anything to worry about. It was designed to be "eyeballed" when measuring portions. You'd have to be a long, long way off on the ratio before you'd have any problems.

The paste and gel epoxies are not super critical on ratios.....don't sweat it. Unless you are having problems with it setting up keep mixing like you always do. I just get a glob on a Popsicle stick of each and put them in a mixing cup. Save the left over so you can check the curing process.

As I won't take a chance for a problem on a customers rod, I measure! I bought a cheap set of plastic measuring spoons ($1.50) that I use frequently, wiping them out with DNA after use. Better safe then sorry.

I just use two Popsicle sticks and the TLAR method. Never a problem.
