Pro Paste versus Flex Coat epoxy

I searched and looked in the library on this subject and didn't find anything. What is your preference and why? Do you use the Pro Paste or the Flex Coat epoxy? I currently have the Flex Coat epoxy because thats what came with my startup kit, and it's not the 5 min. type. Man this stuff sets quick, within 15 min at least. I'm glad I had my handle and reel seat ready to go on, otherwise my first attempt at rodbuilding could of been a mess. So, just curious about imput from the seasoned vets out there.

Hi Arthur,
Paste is not as runny as regular epoxy and doesn't weep out joints like either side of the reelseat etc. Downside is that it may get pushed out of the way when positioning eva grips and doesn't run back if moved when positioning a reelseat. Regular epoxy shouldn't set that quick, you should have at least 30 minutes to get it done so you have got a fast setting epoxy perhaps the 15 minute variety. I prefer the high strength 24 hour cure epoxy even if it adds time to a build and needs to be monitored for weeping. Nothing has ever come unstuck with the stuff I use so I keep using it.

I use the stuff from Rod Dancer. It is much slicker and easier to clean up than all the others. I've had some interesting moments using U40's. That stuff is sticky and doesn't want to clean up easily. Rod Dancer is by far the best.

I am using U-40 and have no issues with clean-up or anything else.
The product is very easy to use. To assure a perfect mixture, I use a melon balling tool.
This allows me to get a very exact measurement of each part.

The best feature, in my opinion, is the long working time.
I really like the fact that I am able to coat my reel seat arbors and the spaces between then test fit and recheck that everything is full of epoxy.
There is no danger of the product dripping off or settling up before final adjustments are made.

In the past I had a couple of kits with the runny-honey type epoxy and didn't like it at all.
That is why I switched to a paste epoxy.
Other brands might be as good or better, but U-40 is what I tried first and I've stayed with it.

I use both Rod-Bond and Pro-Paste on all my handles and my Reel Seats as I think it give a much stronger and longer lasting bond not found in the flex-Coat rod building epoxy glue. All my Customer repairs done do to lose real seat were those that where put together with Epoxy Rod Builders Glue but I have never had even one reel seat that was done with Rod-Bond or Pro-Paste ever come in for repair it is really good stuff.

Many thanks to all who responded. I will definitely try the different brands of paste. I think in the long run they will work much better for me.
Once again thanks.

I was wondering how people think one product is better that another in terms of strength without having numeric data to support their claims. This is just my engineering past coming through, but never fear I'm retired now so that should be fading some as time passes.
