I want to use an Aftco UB4 Straight butt on a blank that is considerably smaller in diameter than the ID of the Aftco. The OD of the blank is only 5/8" whereas the ID of the Aftco is 1".
What would you use to close the gap to fit the blank to the Aftco? This is for an rod that is rated 80 - unlimited so the connection has to be super strong. Re: Aftco UB4 Aluminum Butt

I was just thinking that there might be another way to do this. The drywall tape has to be wound on very tightly or the blank will not seat straight. This is not a problem if the build up is not too thick but if you have to fill a lot of space, it can be a problem. I was thinking that I can find a piece of blank to glue in to build up the diameter a bit and then use the drywall tape to make up the difference. Re: Aftco UB4 Aluminum Butt

Externally sleeving a blank with another blank opens you up for a whole nother set of issues. Especially on an 80-unlimited application. Most of these rating rods are used with #2 bents. You might want to consider that.

If you are not comfortable using drywall mesh, there are arbors that will fit. You can even turn a wood arbor if you want a completely solid connection. Re: Aftco UB4 Aluminum Butt

Thanks, I guess I will go with the dry wall mesh and just get it really tight. Fortunately, I have three other rods that have the bent butts on them and since I only have one straight butt, I wanted to add another. The bent and the straight butts are all interchangeable so no problem in going from one to the other. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
