Line recommendations for F903-4-MHX

Hello,

I am building a fly rod for trout and was wondering if anyone has some ideas for what type of line to use. It would be for indicator nymph fishing and the main type of cast will be roll casting.

The blank is a F903-4-MHX, 9' 3 weight.

I'm relatively new to fly fishing and seem to have better casts when using a slightly heavier line than recommended for the rod.

thanks,
Tom.

I have an MHX F904-4 and it really throws a wf 4w and is also very smooth casting a DT 5w.

If you are lucky enough to have a store nearby that has line spooled up for you to test cast its well worth the time.

Wulff Triangle Taper line roll casts particularly well. It has a long, continuously tapered head so heavier line is always turning over lighter line. The best line weight depends upon your casting style, the distances you wish to cast, and the type of water you fish. If you have a nearby fly fishing club, join up. These clubs have a lot of information to share and often a lot of different lines the members will let you try out.

For me for the MHX Fly I build, use the Triangle Taper line number stated.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have been reading a lot about the Wulff lines and will likely explore that option.
Tom.
