Im building an old St. Croix legend tournament, I believe it was called the "Slip Stick". It was a telescoping 8' rod. Here's the problem i didn't layout the guides before I glued up the handle. If I put a guide right next the the joint when it is collapsed. When I extend it out, the distance from the real face to the first guide is 32". Do you guys think that will work. I only use superlines now so I think that will help some. Re: telescoping rod problem

That's the way most were set up due to the slip/collapse portion. If you want to maintain that ability, you can only put that butt guide so close.

If you do not want it to collapse as much, epoxy a sleeve of whatever length you decide, inside of the butt section. That will then reduce the distance the upper section can collapse down inside the butt section and your guide will end up closer to the reel. You can also put your first guide at the end of the handle section. Worked fine for me until they started making one piece flipping sticks.
On personal rods, I have on several occasions glued the two pieces up to make a one piece rod allowing me to put the guide anywhere I chose Re: telescoping rod problem

You won't have any issues with the first guide at 32 inches.
You will likely appreciate the ability to fully collapse the rod. Re: telescoping rod problem
