I have a NOS Sage Sp blank that I am going to be building. I have several colors of green thread but not look quite right to me, might change after wrapped and finish applied? Unfortunately no one carries rod building supplies where I live so I have to do color charts on the computer and order everything. So any help on a thread color that would blend in with the blank would be great. Looking at the charts I am thinking teal? Re: Sage Sp Thread

Steve, if you are using Regular Nylon and no Color Preserver they will darken. Best bet is to do a couple of test wraps on the butt section of the blank where the grip and reel seat are going. You can easily remove them after you have chosen which color and finish (with or without color preserver) you want to go with. Another trick that will give you an idea of how much darker Regular Nylon goes without Color Preserver is to put a bit of ISO Alcohol on the thread wrap. No harm at all to the thread and it will evaporate very quickly..
If my memory is correct that SP blank is Green, so many of the dark green threads will almost blend right into the same color as the blank if you do not use color preserver. Fish Hawk Dark Green and Pro Wrap #543 Evergreen will do this if that is the look you are looking for. Re: Sage Sp Thread

I use the Pro Wrap 543 Evergreen a lot on Sage blanks. You can then use a lot of different thread colors for accent and it really looks good. Silver, gold, copper, all look good as an accent with the Evergreen. Re: Sage Sp Thread

I do plan on using size A nylon, would think about YLI 100 silk also and no cp. I have several green to dark green colors. The blank does look dark green but when I put the thread next to the blank is has a bluish tint to it. I tried emailing Sage for the color and never received a response, so just may try an call them. Hi Steve
The thread color used on the SP's was actually more blue than green. I have a small spool of it that I use for repairs. I can give you the color number but unfortunately I'm unsure of the manufacturer. Maybe someone else will recognize the code. The number I have is A10654. I'm almost positive that it is not Gudebrod. Hope this helps. Re: Sage Sp Thread

Someone correct me, but if I remember right YLI 100 actually has a die in it that ghosts a bit on dark colors and the 121 natural was the color that was clearest under finish. Re: Sage Sp Thread

Brian, I will do a search and see what I can find, thanks for the info.
Spencer, I had not heard that before. I will have to check it out. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
