I think that I read an artical on how to do it in the rodbuilding mag. but for the life of me I can not find it, can anyone point me to the right issue? Or any advise is welcomed, I got a bunck of blanks from a store that went under. Re: Finding the line weight for an unmarked flyrod blank

There is no single "line weight" that any given rod blank will cast. However, you can arrive at the average line with 30 feet of line past the rod tip here:

Some thing simple would be to measure where a reel seat and handle will be located on the blank
Then according to the size of the blank - Say a 8 ' rod will have 8 guides plus one start with a stock guide chart to start you do not need the seat on or handle tape the guides on and go out and cast it with different lines The only way to figure out what line works well with what blank then fine tune it - you may have some nice blanks there ??? With the CCS measurement, you just need a tip top and be able to secure the butt end, then add pennies according to the info on the site.
This will get you a starting point for each of your blanks. Terry Re: Finding the line weight for an unmarked flyrod blank
