What is the best way to select proper guide sizes and reduction train for the Fuji K series... Never used this style guide, any advice on potential sizes to use for a 7 foot spinning rod/

Are you setting it up for a specific purpose? We could possibly help you better if we know what you are doing with it. You can set it up just like any other guides using the most preferential sizes to fit your application.

Setting it up on a Castaway XP3 842 blank, spinning rod used for finesse style fishing - weightless TRigs, Shakey Heads or an occasional drop shot. Will be set up with a Pflueger Supreme 2500 reel. Probably to be used with a 10 pound sinking braid and a short flouro leader. Was interested in the K Guides from Fuji, but was unsure the sizes and styles to consider. Any assistance would be helpful.

Jay,

Those guides are designed, so the frames get taller depending on how they are typically used. Angler's Resource has a height comparison chart. The KL come in between V and Y type frames (closer to V), and the KL-H come in the neighborhood of a Y frame one ring size larger, give or take a bit.

Set the blank up with guides you have around, and then you can compare with the chart and order what you need.

Any suggestions on a standard set up or combination of these guides. I will have to do some experimenting when I am home with the blank in front of me, just wasnt sure if others had some suggestions of layouts that have worked in the past, I know every rod/reel setup will be tweaked differently.

A close look at K-Series heights will show you that usually (BUT NOT ALWAYS) K's will tend to "group themselves". By that I mean that if a 25 seems best for a stripper a 16 will usually (but not always) fit better that a 12 as the next transition guide. If the 20 worked out best, the 12 would likely fall into place next. The groups usually (but not always) end up as a 25 - 16 - 10; a 20 -12 - 8 or a 30 - 20 - 16 - 10. If you're using GPS don't be confused by all the info generated, it will show positions for ALL GUIDES in the series. Your job is to select the "group" that will work best for your layout. With GPS, you will automatically generate positions, so your only task is to look at POSITIONS that create a good reduction and choose the guides that fit.

For your blank I would choose WHATEVER SIZE K guide fell about 19 inches in front of the spool axle tip (at a mid stroke). Next I would choose the guide that fell 8 to 11 inches beyond the stripper, WHATEVER SIZE. Finally I would choose a guide that fell roughly halfway between the second transition guide and the choke point WHATEVER SIZE. This is the point where I would START to "test and mess". Chances are very good that you will be close to a good layout from the start.

Great info, thanks Jim. Just needed a starting point for the guide groupings, that helps a TON
