anyone have a easy or good way to be able to keep the thread tight on over wraps.mine seem to always walk over and leave some gaps so have to back the thread off and restart.useing a pac bay power wrapper and dual foot boat guides.do u run your thread off the top side of your spools or underside?

There are several ways to accomplish this. Use smaller thread for the underwrap and larger thread for the overwrap. Or, put a coat of CP or finish on the underwrap, let cure, and then make the overwrap.

I don't think how your thread comes off the spool makes a difference.

Like Tom said, you can use a larger thread over the underwrap. Many will use size A for the underwrap and size D for the overwrap.

I never seem to have much issue running A over A. Even if there's a small gap over the underlying thread it tends to blend itself in once epoxy is applied. You should not be getting gaps over the guide foot.

Another thing to keep in mind is having the underwrap in the opposite direction than the guide wrap. I've used A over A, D over D, D over A, all come out good if the underwrap is tight.

Packing and burnishing your underwraps will give you a denser and flatter surface to wrap on.

thanx everyone,the cp did the trick but am going to also try the underwraps in a thread and overs in a d to see what happens.once again thanx
