Thinking about building an inshore rod and was trying to figure out a butt cap with a Texas A&M logo. Y'all have any ideas? and any grip ideas? Thanks

you can find Aggie golf tee markers and put them in the butt cap as one suggestion

Put the reel seat on the tip!! Don't think they make a tip top with a large enough tube for the butt of the rod!! Aggies couldn't figure out why they couldn't grow chickens when they planted them in the garden with the feet up.

I use golf ball markers. There is a website that will make any kind of marker you want. The ones I had made have my logo on them and I have some that have the Ohio Rod builders logo. You can insert text or graphics and they wil make them for you. The ones I got are 3/4" around and fit nicely in set into the rear of a grip. [www.photogiftsmall.com]

I, like David get golf ball markers from photogiftsmall but I get the 1" ones and adhere them to the end instead of insetting it.

Ok guys, lets not pick on the Aggies to much...after all who was it that beat Alabama and who won the Heisman? Oh yea ....What do you call an aggie after he graduates?.......Boss.

I have been thinking abut using a ball marker as well. How do you do the inset? Do you use a dremal tool to reem out the spot for it? Also what do you use to hold it in place?

I use a spade type bit in a Grizzly drill lathe. I chuck up the bit in the drill, push my grip on themandrel and then put the mandrel between the bit tip and the live center. I spin it fast and then slowly push the grip toward the spade bit until I get the desired depth. I clean it up with sand paper as needed.
To hold it in, I use Rod Bond on the bottom of the marker. I then pour two-part epoxy finish over it until it just covers the marker. You don't want the finish to come all the way out to the end because when you set the rod down on it's butt it will crack over time. There needs to be a slight gap in there.
