I don't find the FT 5 WT too stiff to cast but then that was the rod I learned to cast on. I had been a surf caster for years before picking up fly fishing and I found that fast fly rod felt a little more natural to me. That being said, there were better rods for close in work. I also have the FT 3 weight 8 1/2 foot rod which works well with a 5 weight line (in fact, it is the lightest five weight I have.) but it had a shade too much "give" in it. I am about the build an FT 4 WT in the hope that it will be the magic combination for me as a five WT. Good luck. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
