I am building an e glass cranking rod with micro guides and I need a size 8 tip top. The biggest I found are 6.5, are you guys still splitting the tubes so they fit the larger blanks? Or, have you come up with another way?
Thanks, Steve Re: size 8 micro tip top?

Many are now wrapping the appropriate sized guide at the tip, instead of a tip top.

We sell a sz 07 tube with a sz 04 ring made by Kigan. It's the largest micro tip tube size that I know of. Lance Re: size 8 micro tip top?

I would use the smallest size ring in an 8 tube I could find as long as it didn't look out of place. The rod won't know it...

Several years ago, before tip tops with large tube sizes became available, I started wrapping on a running guide for tip tops and have learned to love the clean look. They hold up fine and I’ve never had an issue. They are also considerably lighter. It takes a bit of practice to get them right, but worth the trouble. Re: size 8 micro tip top?

Steve,
Another option is to split the tube of a smaller top and then wrap up the pieces to fasten them to the blank. Not optimal but it is effective. Kind Regards, Brook Oliva Mud Hole Custom Tackle, Inc. brook@mudhole.com (866)-790-RODS Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
