Hi Guys,
I've only got a dozen or so rods under my belt, so I'm pretty new to this game...but what a ride! I'm building a couple steelhead rods for my friends using Batson XST1024 blanks. The stripper and reduction guides are Fuji K-series, and I chose to go with #8 Recoils for the runners to help with icing during the winter on the Lake Ontario tribs. However, the size 8 Recoils sit a bit above the frame, and to create a better transition to the SiC size 7 ring tiptop I added a single size 7 Recoil as the last guide in my running train. It's not much of a change in the line path, but having never tried it before I wondered whether anyone had some guidance (no pun intended) on whether this would reduce effective casting distance or otherwise mess up the feel of the rod. Thanks in advance! Keith Re: running guide change near tiptop

It's of little to no practical importance. And, you could leave all the running guides the same and simply go on to the SIC #7 top and find a similar situation of no practical importance.

I would tie on a #8 runner as the tip top there is no change in size then. Problem solved. I have done this a number of times with steelhead rods. REC I have never used on second thought they might give a bit, I have always used flexlite for this reason. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
