I'm trying to repair an old IM6 graphite rod. The rod has a broken spigot so I need to replace the 2.5 to 3 inches where the old spigot is epoxied to the inside of the blank. The blank is the brown color with the kinda gold spirals when you hold it in the sun. The size is 4.28mm to 4.30 mm OD and the length is 2.5 inches. Any OD piece from 4.0 to 4.5 would probably work. The spigot material is harder than the IM6 blank so drilling is almost impossible so as to save the original piece. If some of you who have a box of old repair pieces as I have would check I would appreciate it. This is a kinda unique repair for me. I know there are other methods to repair but this is a good place to start. Re: Old IM6 graphite

Gene,
I'm presuming that the rod blank is broken straight across where the spigot ends. If so, why not repair it a la Ralph O'Quinn, using the original spigot and blank piece - it would save you a lot of time. If you trim the broken blank off the spigot for about 5/16" (8mm), so that it protrudes, you'll have enough overlap for the plug of the repair. All you need is a thinwall fiberglass piece, 4.28 mm ID about 1 1/2 inches long, to make the oversleeve. The only thing you lose is about 3/8 inches of length. Please correct me if I haven't understood the nature of the break. Re: Old IM6 graphite

I wish I had thought of that method. After taking the guide off, which was right on the spigot, I went ahead and cut it back.I'll remember that in the future. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
