cracking sound at guides

I just finished building 3 eight foot rod for use on party boats fishing for cod. I used Gator glass blanks .Upon checking the flexability of the rods I heard a cracking sound at 6 of the guides on each rod. I thought it was the epoxy "breaking in" but the sound wouldn`t go away or dissapate after flexing the rod for 15 minutes.I made 6 rods like this last winter using the same blanks and guides and never had this problem. What could it be?I might have to take the guides off and start again. Re: cracking sound at guides

Trapped air under wraps, kind of like the air in your own joints ... pop sounds when cracked. Normally, it will go away over time. Re: cracking sound at guides

Hi,
This happens now and then. I find the cracking to be the guides themselves. I feel and notice the cracking sound when I am adjusting the guide feet by hand. Yes, the sound will stop after catching some fish. Nothing to worry about. Capt Neil Faulkner Re: cracking sound at guides

Easy fix - spray the smallest amout of WD 40 onto teh guides, or onto a rag and wipe th entire guide and epoxy where it touches teh blank, betweenteh feet too. I made a post a long time ago about this, I think if you search for squeak it might pop up Re: cracking sound at guides
