I think the stuff is a new formula but they are still using the old label that says to thin with alcohol. Re: gudebrod CP

I remember using the original 811 with alcohol, never worked well on black thread though, it would leave sparkly crystals. To get an almost true black - use chromaseal, fantastic colour retention on the darkest and lightest threads. Jersey, Channel Islands. (U.K.) Re: gudebrod CP

You do if you're using plain thread in a weave with a black background, and crosswraps. I don't use cp on black thread guide wraps though. Jersey, Channel Islands. (U.K.) Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/24/2012 01:07PM by Steve Mcleod. Re: gudebrod CP

Hi Bill,
You do also if it's madeira or other sewing thread. I'm with Steve, a chromaseal fan and I've NEVER thinned that stuff and NEVER had any problems. Gives spool colours with madeira. Re: gudebrod CP

Never tried Maderia yet
I tend to like thread I can either put just clear over or CP and then clear I can make two different shades of the same color just me i guess Bill - willierods.com Re: gudebrod CP

I don't know how many of you are old enough to remember the original Gudebrod CP, but it was nitrocellulose based. Smelled up the whole room and was very volatile. I found out the hard way that when it dried quickly it had a tendancy to shrink the thread. I made a nice little spinning rod for myself and being in a hurry for the CP to dry, I put it in a sunny window while I worked on another rod. I heard a very loud snapping sound and looked around to find the rod collapsed at the butt wrap. The shrinking thread crushed the light fiberglass blank!! I learned two lessons that day: 1. Don't wrap too tightly. 2. Never put any rod in a sunny window to dry. Expensive lesson!! Re: gudebrod CP

Bill, I don't make things up!! It happened and was probably a combination of over tensioned thread wrapping, the nitro CP, and Sun.
Shoot from the hip all you want, try aiming!! It works better. Re: gudebrod CP

Guess you wrap your guides a Little Tight ??
Sounds like that rod would have failed the first time out no matter what CP was used Bill - willierods.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
