Some years ago I built a spinning rod on a Lami G1000 blank that's either a GSB 108 1M or a GLB 108 1MH. I don't have the records anymore, and I'd like to know which blank I used. Lami's rep told me it would be practically impossible to tell without flexing the two blanks together. I thought someone might know how much each or one of them would deflect with a given weight suspended from the tip. Any ideas? Thanks.
I also would appreciate it if someone would like to point out the general differences between the GLB and GSB blanks. Thanks again. Re: Lami GSB 108 1M vs Lami GLB 108 MH

Thanks, but I was interested in the comparison to the GLB 108 1MH. (It would be interesting to compare the properties of the GLB 108 1M as well, though.) The only difference in specs shown is the GLB 18 1 MH shows a 1/2 oz. greater upper lure wt. range, at 3 1/2 oz., compared to 3 oz for the GSB 108 1 m.
Here are the possibilities I can see: 1) The specs posted by Lamiglas for one of the blanks is incorrect, or not precise enough to define the difference between the two blanks. 2) The blanks are, in fact, identical. The lower lure wt. range difference is given to protect the GSB blank against the shock of lure, vs bait, casting. 3) Althought the blanks are made of the same stuff and weigh the same, the patterns rolled onto the mandrel are shaped differently, giving the blanks different action. 4) The same wt. pattern is rolled onto a different mandrel, with the same butt, tip and length, but different taper. Of these, 1) or 2) seems more likely. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/23/2012 07:51AM by Jim Kinkennon. Re: Lami GSB 108 1M vs Lami GLB 108 MH

Correct model added above. (I'm claiming that it was a long day.) The lure weights sometimes change after a blank has been in production for a while. Don Becker Re: Lami GSB 108 1M vs Lami GLB 108 MH

Jim,
I think 3 and 4 are the correct solution. It's been quite a few years since I was stationed back east, but I remember the GLB 108 MH was a far more popular blank/rod than the GSB. Re: Lami GSB 108 1M vs Lami GLB 108 1MH

I'd love it if someone would pull one of each from stock and give them a static deflection test and see if they bend the same. Then wiggle them each and see if they flex the same. I suspect it's the same blank, but have no way to show it. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
