Epoxy finishing

I often epoxy the entire blank on most of my rods, after applying decals it sometimes makes sense to do so. I will say that most of my rods are heavy offshore rods where weight is not a factor. Anyway to the question, what is the best way to apply epoxy just past the guide and get a nice looking end of epoxy. I've tried masking tape but the epoxy seems to get under the tape causing a not so desirable look. Re: Epoxy finishing

Paper masking tape tends to absorb just a little bit of epoxy. You may find that plastic tape will give you a better edge.
Or spin the rod a bit faster and just lay the brush against the rod for a second. Should result in a crisp, straight edge. ............ Re: Epoxy finishing

Ed,
Spin the rod on a power wrapper at a few hundred rpm when applying finish on the edges of the guide. Velvet smooth even edge. Roger Re: Epoxy finishing

I use a cane to hold my hand steady and apply while rod is turning. I do this at 40rpms. You can also use a spatula and when you get close to the edge, press down slightly and it will make a straight edge. The trick is to hold your hand steady and make sure the rod is turning true.
