The reel feet are standard across a very few sizes, with the exception of fly reel feet. Standards do exist for fly reel feet but few manufacturers build to those standards.
Reel seats, however, have no standard. ............. Re: Table to match standard reel feet to reel seats.

I cut the feet off of two very old reels to use for split seats, lining up components, etc. One seat is very old and a tiny bit longer than the newer one. All of the newer ones I have seen are the same length. David Dosser Coshocton, OH Re: Table to match standard reel feet to reel seats.

John,
In spite of the other posts: I have seen a rather large variation in reel foot sizes. Not only are some different in length, some are different in thickness as well as width. The only way to know for sure is to try a particular reel on a particular reel seat. For several years, when making custom or skeletal reel seats, I would cut off extra threads on the reel seat. However, every now and then a client would change to a different reel and then find that the new reel had a longer foot and would no longer fit in the customized reel seat. So, in current builds, I seldom every cut any threads off of a manufacturers reel seat. What difference - really does it make if there are a few extra threads on the reel seat? A fleck of weight - or a fleck of different reel seat length compared to grip length. I have found that it simply isn't worth the effort considering the potential down side. This is the same reason that I have never ever been an advocate of making a reel a permanent part of a rod. A good rod can last for years and years. But many times, a person wants to try a different reel on his favorite rod. Tough to do, if the reel seat has been made too short for the new reel, or if the old reel was permanently attached to the rod. I have seen many many rods of years old compared to folks wanting to go to a new reel on a favorite rod. Be safe Roger Re: Table to match standard reel feet to reel seats.

IF
You don't take a LOT off the feet of a reel you can most of the times Customize the feet to fit a given seat Bill - willierods.com Re: Table to match standard reel feet to reel seats.

Bill,
True, but if you leave the reel seat alone, you likely won't need to touch the feet of a different reel. Roger Re: Table to match standard reel feet to reel seats.
