Thinking about a custom spiral wrapped surf rod built on a CTS SE-1363 blank. Looks like O'Quinns' spiral is the way to go for a long surf rod. Has anyone done this recently? What components did you use? Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks, Roman Re: CTS SE-1363 spiral build

Both Bill Falconer and Charlie Smooth have done some surf rods with spiral wraps, the O'Quinn I think, and you might do a search under their names (all dates) to turn up their experiences.

Hi Roman,
I rebuilt a 10 foot beach rod with an O'Quinn spiral and it casts nicely, better than before the rebuild. Used titanium framed double footers, 12, 8 then six 6's. It runs 20lb braid off a Calcutta 700BSV. ESFNEM Col Port Kembla, NSW Australia Re: CTS SE-1363 spiral build

Thanks guys! I probably need to add that this will be my personal 6 and bait heaver. For the reel I will be using Daiwa Saltist STT 30 spooled with 25# mono. Re: CTS SE-1363 spiral build

Glad i read your last post but I have done it on one rod for myself and it works pretty good. I won't say it casted farther and I'm not sure about using mono as I use 50# braid on a Penn 525mag! Re: CTS SE-1363 spiral build

Hey John, If it's not too much trouble could you please elaborate a bit on that build you did? Things like guide type, sizes, etc would be really helpful.
