Im sure I already know the answer. Would I compromise the integrity of a blank if i were to shave the tip in order to get a half size smaller tip top. Just being impatient. Would be a week or more waiting on size 6 tip top when I have a 5.5 sitting on the bench.

I'd be looking to try and open the tip top first. Something like hammer a scratch awl into the tube to try and flare it a bit. I would remove finish from the blank's tip but no way would I "shave" actual blank material. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: would I compromise a blank if?......

If all you're shaving off is a little paint, it would probably be OK. If you actually remove blank material...you already know the answer to that one. If it's a matter of wanting to use the rod right away, I would wrap on a single foot guide at the tip. Secure the wrap with a little color preserver, and it it'll work fine. I've had one rod, with CP-only wraps, in service for over a year. When it's time to put the permanent tip on, removing the temp tip is very easy. You may a need a little alcohol to clean up the residual CP, but it 'll come off very easily. George Forster Fort Collins, CO Re: would I compromise a blank if?......

I had one that did'nt fit, it was way too tight, so I noticed the rod had a finish of some sort on it so I took the lightest sandpaper I had and carefully sanded off the finish I don't know if I sanded anymore then that, but a good look at it through the magnifiers, and it looked like it was just the finish, and the tip went right on, a little tight but it fit. If you look close at many tips, you'll notice a slight rolled edge on many of them when the tube was cut that decreases the diameter a bit, remove it for a bit more room. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 12/09/2012 10:46AM by Spencer Phipps. Re: would I compromise a blank if?......

to add to spencers post,i always use a small round file on tip tops to get it "water break" and to take care of any factory imperfections. www.southriverrodsllc.com Re: would I compromise a blank if?......

Russell has it right-open the tiptop. You will be surprised how much difference you can make without compromising anything. Re: would I compromise a blank if?......

I do it if the top is real close and I only need a teeny little bit. maybe not a good idea but so far so good? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
