Shipping rods

Just about every custom rod builder I know that sells and ships rods either has or at some point will have a rod damaged or broken by the shipper. I certainyi have. Well one rod builder decided to do something about it. An article landed on my desk today that has about the best, and simplest, packaging idea I've seen for shipping rods. While I don't believe you can stop a shipper from breaking a rod any more than I believe you can build a truly unsinkable ship, this has to be about as close as you can get.

While I see no reason to object and have little doubt about the outcome, I need to run it by a few shipping companies for their comments and try shipping a few things this way to see how well it works. I suspect all will be well and the article will appear in the magazine that mails the first of February.

Tom, I think I know how it will ship, because I was sent a ice rod blank (36") .it was so cool I wish they would send all my rod blanks this way. I'll not say anymore than that about it ,I will wait for you'r article in the Feb. issue .

Again Thank you for all you have given to the ART of ROD BUILDING.
