Hi,

Why not cork? You can sand it down to the diameter of your choice. Then you can fill in the pores if you don't like the pores showing.

hi maryann,i build a alot of heavers and always have to scramble to get the right materials that will fit and be asthetically pleasing for the client.a product i have turned to called "cold shrink"has been a life saver on some builds.it is a rubber splicing product made for the electrical industry and can be aquired at any electrical warehouse or supply house.the only down side is it only comes in about 10" lengths, but i have used 2 together and filled the gap with rod bond and you won't notice after putting x-flock or nu-skinz over it.makes for a small diameter build up and last forever

Try TWO layers of cork Tape One Spiraling up the Blank and one Spiraling Down, so they cross over each other and cover with X flock heat shrink you can use two 1/8" thick or a 1/8" and a 1/16 " layers
Ending the top layer with trim wraps to secure the ends. A little spray adhesive under the shrink wrap

You might also try a cord grip, which can come in different colors and sizes, or like the cork tape suggestion above, cover with heat shrink grip material if you don't like the cord feel.

I do a lot of surf rods in cord here for the big sturgeon crowd.
