I have heard of some thinning white Elmer's glue and using it, but do a test first. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 11/29/2012 10:17PM by Phil Erickson. Re: color preserver ???

Just for fun I once tried a white, liquid acrylic floor polish. I thin k it was Johnson's Floor wax (forget the specific product name). It handled very similar to regular color preserver. It had a milky white translucent appearance and soaked the threads very well and dried very quickly to a nice clear coating in the filaments. I think I used a 2 application and let both coats dry thoroughly. The rod has been used hard for about 6 or 7 yeras now with no issues. What I think I know is that I use this liquid floor wax works in a pinch but I can use a regular color preserver that is specifically designed for that task is likely to give me better results - just less drama. Some home remedies work but other don't and they're all risky. But staying with products that are designed for a sepcific task you will have more consistent results Re: color preserver ???

I generally agree and would get it rushed or wait especially if its a customers rod. That said i do home brew my airbush cleaner with windex so if its not super risky have a go at the floor wax. I think the old Pactra Clear Gloss Dope is about the same stuff that used to be sold as Gudebrod Lacquer CP and the white acrylic decoupage stuff at the craft stores is almost exactly the same stuff sold as modern water based CP. I think. Re: color preserver ???

"Future" floor wax. I think it's an acrylic liquid, not a wax. I tested this and several other "CP's" when I first started building rods - looked as good as some of the actual rodbuilding CP's!!

Elmers glue experiment as a color sealer was successful. I mixed glue with approximately 40% water and was very happy with the results. I didn't find any difference between single or multiple coats. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
