I have a walnut insert for a fly rod and have a few minor scuffs and scratches. Both appear to be minimal. What is the correct method to buff/polish these out? Any suggestions appreciated.

you can sand out the scratches and add a coat of finish. i don't recommend rod epoxy, but a good wod finish(urethane) Re: scratched walnut insert ?

Depends on how deep the scuffs and scratches are. You can try a couple of things.
First, try a paste car wax, like Mothers or Turtle Wax, both have some minor solvents that may soften the finish and allow you to buff them out as long as they are not too deep. Second if that does not work, wipe it down with Iso Alcohol, to remove any wax residue, then wet sand with very fine sand paper, something like 600 or finer. If this removes the scratches, then just apply another coat of a good wood finish, something that is outdoor rated. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
