I have done lots of snake skin inlays and have always covered them with TM, has anyone ever used permagloss over skin? How has it worked out for you? Thinking about the yellowing factor of TM vs PG. Sorry, I thought you might have concerns about it yellowing. I have never used it over skin, but just about everything else. :>) Wish I could have been more help. Re: Permagloss on snake skin

What do you plan to use to adhere the snakeskin to the blank, or is this what you plan to use the permagloss for - both adhesive and overcoating? Re: Permagloss on snake skin

Just as an overcoating. ______________________________________ Super Tight Lines......Don Re: Permagloss on snake skin

Don:
Then isn't the compatibility of permagloss with your adhesive material the issue here? Snakeskin is extremely permeable to any type of adhesive (or liquid) I can think of. Re: Permagloss on snake skin

The skin is not actually "fixed" to the rod, I am working on a very special rod project and the skin is too expensive to experiment on. Just curious if there has been any issues using the permagloss....sorry to be so vague but it is kind of a secret project to be revealed later. I guess I will just give it a go and see what happens. Thanks guys ______________________________________ Super Tight Lines......Don Re: Permagloss on snake skin

Hi Don
How does Permagloss dry? It starts to react with Oxygene! so it is not an eppoxxy, it shrinks, I do not know if I would use it on Snake skin since I do several layers of finish, and each coat is very thin, if it starts to shrink it might raise the scales of the skin (pulling effect). Do not take the risk, if you cant change it. Just my thought. Best Regards Mark Crouse Re: Permagloss on snake skin

Just try it on a less expensive skin first then tell us how it worked out.

Good point Mark.....And Mike, why didn't I think of that. I guess I was hoping someone else had already given it a try. Stay tuned ______________________________________ Super Tight Lines......Don Re: Permagloss on snake skin

I've used it with no problems, however be sure you have the skin completely saturated with CP so it does not penetrate. Re: Permagloss on snake skin
