Is there any way to remove and replace a graphite spin seat without destroying the fore and rear grips? Harry T. Bell Re: replace reel seat

I've never seen or installed a plate reel seat. Would that work? I srewed up the installation of a skeleton reel seat and am trying to save the carbon fiber grips, which are the 1st I've made. Re: replace reel seat

Cut through the reel seat and blank at an angle. remove the reel seat. Find a piece of blank that fits both ends fo the blank that was just cut. For extra insurance, you could find an over sleeve as well. Glue up the new assembly and let dry. By cutting the blank at an angle, the allignment of the blank is maintained. I believe that Billy has replaced reel seats this way. Chris Richer Iroquois ON Re: replace reel seat

Hello ALL
Chris has it right, however do not forget to glue your new seat to the outside sleeve before glueing the rest up. Let us know what you do and how it comes out. Good Luck & Tight Wraps. Bob, New Bern, NC. Re: replace reel seat

Harry, to begin with, why do you want to replace the reel seat? Is it defective? Re: replace reel seat

it"s a skeleton seat and I glued it up incorrectly. The two parts are too close to accept the reel foot. UI'm thinking of cutting open the hood and molding a new hood, that will be set back a few mm, with composite. Then I'll paint it black and cover it with light finish to get a better look.
