ERN reference for spinning/casting rods?

I'm a little newer to rod building and I got some of those grab bag blanks from mudhole to get some cheaper experience on. I'm working on determining their characteristics using CCS so I can decide what to build with them. My problem is, with my lack of experience, I'm unable to translate an ERN into something I find meaningful. I've been raised on the light/medium/heavy classifications, and I know these are subjective and less useful than an ERN value. If I had a variety of store-bought rods, I'd figure out their ERN values to get a sense for what a general cross-reference might be. But I do not have a variety, and so I don't think I can determine what an ERN of 16.5, for example, might translate into on the medium/heavy scale.
I did a lot of searching but I came up empty. Could anybody help me? Re: ERN reference for spinning/casting rods?

Take a few rods that you currently own and have a good feel for and run the CCS on them. Then use those numbers to compare, up or down, to the CCS numbers you record for the unknown blanks.

It looks like the CCS Data is no longer posted - you may have been able to get comparative data from there, assuming you could find rods that had bee n measured amongst your friends Re: ERN reference for spinning/casting rods?

Yeah, the problem is I don't have many rods at all, if I did it wouldn't be a problem. Re: ERN reference for spinning/casting rods?

Take the numbers you get from them
If you find they use a 5 wt line Put 5 over 16 - it will get you into the ball park of the lure weight to use for the rod Bill - willierods.com Re: ERN reference for spinning/casting rods?

At least run the numbers on any you do have. That will give you some basis for comparison.

That 16.5 over 16 relates to - about - 1 1/2 oz I would think it would be a nice bass blank using 1/2 - 3/4 oz Bill - willierods.com Re: ERN reference for spinning/casting rods?

I'm pretty sure 16.5 over 16 is a lot closer to 1 ounce than 1.5 ounce . . . Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
