butt guide

i am about to embark on my first rod building mission and one thing i cant seem to find spelled out clearly is the criteria for the butt guide placement on a casting rod.when not loaded is the line supose to be centered in the guide? any help would be greatly appreciated ive done alot of searching and find more on spinning rods than anything else

I'd prefer that it be very close or lightly upon the bottom of the ring.
