Lee,
Use a pair of common pliers to shred and remove the old grip. Use a scraper, heat and sand paper to clean up the old glue from the blank. Find a piece of blank that will fit nicely up the inside of the blank by 4 inches leaving 2 inches exposed. Cut the piece of blank to length. Use 5 minute epoxy to glue the blank extension in place. Use masking tape - leaving 1/8th inch spaces between rows of wraps to insure that the exposed grip area on the blank is a constant diameter. i.e. build up the extension and the front part of the grip area to be the same diameter as the former largest portion of the blank butt. When you glue on the handle, fill the 1/8th inch gaps between the rows of masking tape wrap with epoxy to insure that you have a good blank to handle bond - just relying on the tape to insure a centered blank in the grip. Obtain the new handle, and cut it to length for a nice fit on the blank. Bore out the new handle to fit the constant diameter handle area that you have made on the blank. Drill a small 1/16th hole or so in the butt cap of the new grip to allow air to escape when installing the new grip. Coat the blank and the inside of the grip with epoxy and slip in place. Clean up any excess epoxy and let dry. Good luck Roger Re: rod grip

Take a long piece of braided fishing line and hold it firmly between two gloved hands. Starting at one end, press the line down and then simply shave down the rod. Turn the rod and repeat. It will take about 5 or 6 shavings to completely remove the grip.
This was a tip we published in RodMaker awhile back, although I can't remember the author's name at the moment. .............. Re: rod grip

If you have access to a lathe the easiest method will be to turn the old grip off with a gouge. Quick work. Be careful not to dig into the blank of course. I would stop just shy of the blank and sand or scrape the last remnant off. Re: rod grip

If you like the graphite tubes then it is really easy to extend the handle. I extended on 6in a while back and love the feel of the graphite tube. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
