Is a 9' 12wt too much or is a ten weight more than enough. Also thoughts on switch rods for larger kings on the feather river. Re: 10 or 12 wt for larger kings or preferably 9 wt switch or spey

Depends on the size of the kings. Over the years the vast majority of the requests I received for king rods were for 10-weights. Rarely did anyone ask for anything heavier. However, even a 12-weight isn't going to skitter a 40lb king across the surface.

10 wt is all you need, make sure you get a good reel with a quality cork drag, that's what takes the beating the most, it's those lighting runs that stop and start on a heart beat that make the difference.
