Checked final alignments last night before putting on finish - put the reel on the reel seat, screwed the locking nuts down with finger pressure, checked the guides off the reel face, went to unscrew the locking nuts and they wouldnt budge. I mean locked down.
I grabbed a towel and started twisting with my hands. After a while later I finally got them to open up so I could remove the reel. When I took the towel off some of the purple color on the reel seat had skuffed off. Awesome. Re: Aluminum Reel Seat - Ever had this problem?

It's best to put a flat rubber washer or an O'ring between the locking nuts to prevent that from happening. Dennis J. Danku (Sayreville,NJ) Re: Aluminum Reel Seat - Ever had this problem?

The o ring should be between the two lock rings. Re: Aluminum Reel Seat - Ever had this problem?

At any point...did you clean/degrease the seat wih some type of solvent?
I have not had it happen with aluminum but I have had it happen a lot with stainless fasteners. A bit of never sieze is good insurance. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: Aluminum Reel Seat - Ever had this problem?

Adam, If you have a o-ring or a flat rubber washer there already then, you may have to check for damaged threads on the barrel of your reel seat. Dennis J. Danku (Sayreville,NJ) Re: Aluminum Reel Seat - Ever had this problem?

You could have accidentally dropped some finish on the threads of your seat and didn't realize it. Lance Re: Aluminum Reel Seat - Ever had this problem?

There is def. a stock 0-ring already there between the locking rings. No finish was applied yet.
Didnt think to check the threads or use a solvent to clean them up. Will do before passing on. Thanks for the tips guys. I'm probably most shocked about the color coming off. Cant be good for a seat that will see lots of wear n tear on the salt. Re: Aluminum Reel Seat - Ever had this problem?

I assume your worry is because this is a customer rod? If it is your rob, why worry about it? Next time be sure to use some sort of anti seize insurance. On our offshore rods we use a strap wrench to tighten the nuts...they are way more than hand tight. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
