New project dictates painting a part of the blank White. Opinions welcome as to which is the best way to go about painting a blank in white color. Thanks Phillips Hot Rods C Y P R U S [phillipshotrods.wix.com] Re: painting blanks

I did my last 3 rod blanks with House of Colors custom auto paints and clear coated. Liked the color choices, flex and adhesion properties, glossy finish, and I have the equipment to do the job.
But that's my opinion. Opinions are like noses and everybody has one. Do a SEARCH for painting blanks of this site and other sites and see what I mean. Rods are painted with Krylon to autopaints. All depends on what YOU have time and money for. Re: painting blanks

Hello Chris.
What do you mean by "PART" of the blank? For what purpose? Most likely just tape it off and spray it with dupli color or Krylon or some other spray paint but I can't tell for sure without more info, you might need do use a tinted PG or even something else. You could
Figure where you want the decal Measure the area to be painted leaving some extra room mask off find pad sand and paint Let dry Put a coat of finish on the white Let dry To keep it white Put the decal on - Add some thread wraps on the ends Finish it all The decal may need CP over it to keep it from lifting Bill - willierods.com Re: painting blanks

How about a wrap of white thread around the blank in that area. Freddwhy (Rapt-Ryte) Re: painting blanks

Hello Chris.
For that I would do like Fred said, wrap with white thread, epoxy, put on the decal and then another coat of epoxy(and as Bill said it may need cp, ask the mfr of the decal). Tight Wraps. Bob, New Bern, NC. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/04/2012 12:37PM by Robert A. Guist. Re: painting blanks

I would be afraid of a dark colored blank and if not packed and burnished well may show though ??
NCP white should work well CP and finish Bill - willierods.com Re: painting blanks

After a few months and the epoxy yellows it will really show on white. I like to use the testors enamel spray cans for painting blanks. Lots of cool colors and it isn't as thick as normal spray cans. Re: painting blanks

You can cover the area with adhesive backed silver mylar film, wrap it with white thread, apply finish, apply label, apply final finish. It will pop like crazy done that way. Re: painting blanks

White NCP will be fine. Its done all the time and burnishing is not even necessary. Kevin Knox ANGLER'S ENVY CUSTOM RODS QUEEN ANNE, MD 21657 #_#_#_#_# www.anglersenvy.com Re: painting blanks

Thank you Gentlemen Your feedback is really valuable, I was thinking of painting it first in order to keep the figure of the blank around that area as slim as possible. I guess if it doesn't look good on the paint I can always apply an underwrap of white thread and thus cover the painted area. Shot to nothing sort of speak!
Again thanks everybody for their input Regards Phillips Hot Rods C Y P R U S [phillipshotrods.wix.com] Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
