Hey Rodboard I was just at the Bass Pro in Myrtle Beach and came across a panfish rod that looked cool. It was 12 foot and the action was like ultra-ultra-ultra light. Anybody know where I can get a blank to make something similar? Because it looked like a lot of fun. Thanks - Tyler Re: Panfish Rod

Not sure about the 12 footer, but if you get the longest 3 weight fly rod you can find, then build it as a spinning rod, it will make a great panfish rod sort of in the vein of what you describe. Batson has a nine foot 3 wt. Not sure I would want 12 feet, but not sure exactly what you want to do with it. Re: Panfish Rod

Tyler,
This sounds like a match rod that is used in Europe for their match fishing. [www.harrisonrods.co.uk] Roger Re: Panfish Rod

Sounds like a B&M rod, or equivalent. You won't find a way to recreate what they offer. B&M sells finished rods from $50 to $80. I own them myself and love them for dabbling crickets around lilypads for bluegill. Just buy a couple and be done with it. Honestly, it isn't custom rod territory. Re: Panfish Rod

That is long.... As far as I am concerned the ultimate panfish rod would be built on the MHX blank S841-MHX. Only 7 foot but ultra light and great action. ______________________________________ Super Tight Lines......Don Re: Panfish Rod

I've done as jim says using a B&M rod, but I stripped it of their cheap compnents and rebuilt it to suit myself. Re: Panfish Rod

Tyler,
B&M rods has them, to rich for me, I went to Wal-mart , found a 16ft. Crappie buster called " Black Widow" . It was about $12 or 14 $$ I think. I took the tip top and the line wrapper off, put a plate type reel seat( Fuji # FS6) I got from Mud Hole, ($3.15) , Took some salvaged guides I had taken from scraped rods and made them work on the 4section rod blank. That was a trick ,, The rod is a 4pc. telescoping rod, You can't take it apart, you have wrap it like a one pc. blank, .The room I work in small (7x7) so I had to move to the Living room , put it together in one night, put out on porch to dry. When I went to the pound to fish with the guys they had cane poles, they could only get out about12 or 15 ft., I made castes of35to50 ft. where the bigger Bluegill were at in 20ft. of water . I was the only one with a spinning reel. on a 16ft. rod, by the end of the day, I had 4of the guys wanting me to build them the same rod I have..So if you want a ul ul ul.rod try this It worked for me. Good luck Richard Curry What is life without fishing ? Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
