I'm looking to build a rod for punching mats. 7-8 ft long for 1-2 oz. baits using 65lb braid. Does anyone have any suggestions for a good blank. Re: punch rod

Castaway BB2 Big Show from Swampland would be my choice. I have two with #4 micros and love them for flipping hydrilla mats. Re: punch rod

There are several good options for a rod blank for punching mats, depending on your price range.
If your budget is a little tight try the Netcraft JMX rod blanks. They have a 7’ Heavy power rod that I have used for punching grass and it was great rod for the money. [www.jannsnetcraft.com] For a middle of the road price, Rainshadow makes a great blank, and their RX7 flipping stick blanks would be great for what you are looking for. The IFS904 model is 7’6†long and is rated for lures up to 2 ounces. This is a solid one piece blank, while the IFT904 is a telescoping blank. Both blanks have a lot of backbone in order to get the fish out of the slop. [www.jannsnetcraft.com] If you are looking to spend a little more money to get a nicer rod blank, I would take a look at some of the higher end St. Croix rod blanks. The SC V blanks are a very nice blank and are very light weight. They offer a 7’6†MH blank that has a moderate fast action and is under 3 ounces. If you are looking for a rod that is a little more stout, try the 7’11†Heavy blank, which also has a moderate fast action. This blank only weighs 4 ounces and is rated for lures up to 2 ounces in weight. [www.jannsnetcraft.com] [www.jannsnetcraft.com] Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
