yellowing on white blank?

I have a white MHX blank that I just finished like this last spring, and I looked at the threads and epoxy and there was yellowing in the epoxy on the wraps where the hook keeper is, I was wondering if it could be that since the blank is white it shows up earlier or it just more distintictive cause of the white blank? Its just kind of faded yellow not that bad yet, or could it be that there was something in the epoxy when I applied it. Re: yellowing on white blank?

Lorenzo,
It's just the nature of epoxy. It will yellow over time. When you have the white background, it will be much easier to see. Black and yellowish black are much harder for the eye to distinguish than white and yellowish white. I have some old factory rods with silver lettering that now appear to bronze lettering. If you want the finish to stay clear, use PG or LS. I also think the Threadmaster One is supposed to remain clear as well. I just got a bottle this week, and look forward to trying it out when I get the chance. Joe Re: yellowing on white blank?

There is a huge difference between finish mixed 99.9% and 100%.
You might try mixing your epoxy finish more thoroughly. Check out our video on measuring and mixing. [www.flexcoat.com] Flex Coat Company Professional Rod Building Supplies www.flexcoat.com Re: yellowing on white blank?

I know I measured it right, and it was in the mixer for a little more then 3 minutes, and I used the same epoxy for the other threads on the rod, but its just on that wra it getting discolored. Its hardly noticable, I am just wondering what could of happened. Re: yellowing on white blank?

Ok, one thing to think about is there can be a reaction between lacquer and epoxy, also that particular spot could be slightly under mixed. That makes sense, I'll just have to wait and see if it yellows more over time, next time I'll have to make sure its 100% mixed throughly. Have a good one! Re: yellowing on white blank?

Uhm, the finish yellows when exposed to sunlight. It has nothing to do with mixing. Some finishes don't yellow as much as others. Re: yellowing on white blank?

White blanks and certain finishes will always show yellow, thus the reason for darker blanks. I use Threadmaster on all of my white on white builds and have 0 issues with yellowing.
