Building a rod for my daughter's best friend. I think she will prefer a 2 pc for storage reasons. The blank is a MHX series 7' light/fast. Is there a rule for where to cut the blank, and I need advice on constructing a ferrule. I thought aluminum tube. Thanks, as always. Harry T. Bell Re: change 1pc spin blank into 2pc

The ferrule will need to be made from a fiberglass oversleeve (RodMaker Magazine had an article on making these). The trick is to maintain a continuity of properties across the ferrule. You don't want a stiff spot there - if that area is made much stiffer than the blank on either side, there are stresses present that can result in a failure at those areas.
As far as were to cut the blank, that depends on what the longest section you can get by with. So, either in the middle, or somewhere towards the butt depending on the longest section that can be tolerated. One last option - see if that blank is made in a two-piece model and save yourself the time of turning this one into a two-piece model. ............... Re: change 1pc spin blank into 2pc

Here's your best solution. Let the factory do it. S842-2-MHX Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/17/2012 04:04PM by Bob Riggins. Re: change 1pc spin blank into 2pc

Hello Harry.
There are two articules in 13/1 RodMaker Magazine, Fitting Ferrules and Assembling Integral Ferrules. I belive these are the ones Tom is speaking of, if not he will probably let us both know. Tight Wraps. Bob, New Bern, NC. Re: change 1pc spin blank into 2pc

I expect if done right, it can be a good rod, but there are so many ways to screw it up that unless you have experience doing it, I strongly recommend doing another rod designed to be a 2 piece. No one can have too many fishing rods, but screw that one up and you will find yourself quickly with too few. I wouldn't even do it if I had a lot of experience.
