I know Mudhole has X-Camo blanks, I have a request for a digital camo like the new military uniforms...... The rod will be for bass fishing.
Does anyone have any suggestions ?
Thanks

Many years ago, before the age of all these different colored blanks, we used thread, cross wraps or weaves to set the required theme. With a little ingenuity, you should be able to employ the digital camo in a weave, graphic, etc., and not worry over the blank color (a neutral grey or charcoal perhaps). Just something to consider if you can't come up with a digital camo colored rod blank.

Speaking from experience, not all patterns in the digital line lend themselves to components. Especially blanks.

That being said we'll have some of the first of our digital camo patterns pictured and listed on our site later this week.

I'm no rodbuilder, just a fisherman (and luremaker). But I know an outfit called Airsick Stencils makes a mini digital camo stencil. Of course that would then result in the requirement of you painting. I know I read here that at least one blank manufacturer will paint a custom color with an upcharge. Perhaps you could do tan blank, light green and light brown wraps, and a composite tubing full split grip which you stencil the digital camo on, then clearcoat over?

Not sure if this is even practical, but then I'm here trying to understand and design rods to improve my fishing!

With the small size of most of the length of the rod blank, I don't think you would recognize the digital camo pattern over most of its length. To simplify the process it may be possible to paint the blank one of the colors present in the digital camo over most of the rod length, do windings in another color, and use decals just in the grip area of the digital camo pattern. Mudhole has it in their "Skinz" product, which is very easy to use. Of course when you cover it with epoxy, it will be glossy. Not sure if there is a dull epoxy or not.

Sounds like Rodwerx will have reel seats for you, if you can get a good match with the Skinz, you may have a solution.

KlassKote makes epoxy in all the military colors, including an additive to flatten the sheen of either the gloss or satin catalyst.
