There was an article on building centre pin rods in a recent Rodmaker issue. Can't remember which but I think it was this year. The author talked a lot about the blanks from Batson and recommended some specific models.

Talon Graphite also makes some excellent blanks. There are others also, but without more info on length, etc. it pretty general.

Gary, get a hold of Tony Childs here in Michigan, his info is on the MI Rodbuilders Site. He was going to do a presentation at the Round Up this spring but had top cancel at the last minute.

The Batson XST blanks are very nice for the money...light and crisp with good power. Better still are the CTS Affinity Float blanks...even lighter and crisper with better power, but with a larger price tag.

I have had the rainshadow ,both models, the CTS and the MHX blanks all in my shop. I think for the money the MHX is a very nice blank.

FYI...Just make sure, you don't use the "traditional" float rod guides; more weight and certainly not needed. I use very small low frame single foot fly rods guides under the Fuji new concept system. Rod ends up being more crisp and lighter.

I'll second that Paul. Single foot fly rod guides work very well under the new guide concept system.

Almost sure that would have to be it. It wasn't that long ago so that number sounds right.

Gary, Most of my builds are float rods or centerpin rods. I would start with the Batson rainshadow blanks. They are on the heavy side but are very durable. If money is no object, the CTS is the cream of the crop in my opinion. Feel free to e mail me with questions. Frank
