Has anyone tried using 60 wt cotton for wrapping guides? Was wondering if cotton could be used vs nylon? Re: Thread

It's also far more prone to fade and degrade than nylon. But yes, you can bind guides to the rod with it. For how long is the question.

Dave,
A rod builder can use any type thread or string that he/she want to use. Many hundreds different threads and string have been used to build fishing rods since the early man first started fishing. Today's modern "rod building specific" threads have all been well tested and well proven to give all rod builders an excellent finished product. Take care Roger Re: Thread

Dave,
I agree with Roger's thought. I'm not sure why you would want to use a non-rodbuilding-specific thread. Compared to all the supplies and components we use to build rods, thread is one of the least expensive of them so I don't see a big cost savings to using something else. Just curious about the question. Re: Thread

to answer steves question,my local jo-anns carries sulky and tho it is not speciffically for rods it does a very good job and i don't have to wait for a delivery,i do use gudebrod, mediera and other brands that are made for rod building but have found that other brands may have just that color to suit a build.roger said it best,a builder can use any type of thread, just have to learn the different properties of each brand www.southriverrodsllc.com Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
