I have been searching for the best tubing for shipping surf rods in the 74" plus range. So far 3" schedule 20 PVC tubing with test caps seem to be my best option. Have you any suggestions for better alternatives? Re: oversize shipping

ABS material is lighter than PVC and I think is strong enough to do the job and save a few bucks over PVC Raymond Adams Eventually, all things merge, and a river runs through it.. Re: oversize shipping

Phil,
I use the same 3 inch pvc drain pipe. It works very well and is the right diameter to handle the guide heights. But, I don't like anything sticking out on the outside of the tube, so I just take a piece of cardboard, and use the cardboard to seal the end with fiberglass tape. Roger Re: oversize shipping

I use Sch. 40 PVC and I have still had it broken....only once though. I typically ship FedEx, it has been my experience that the weight doesnt matter as much as the size of the tube. I tried some thiner wall PVC and since it didnt save any money on shipping I just stick with the heavier stuff now. Scott Sheets www.smsrods.com Re: oversize shipping

Hello All.
I've heard that you need to put a small air hole in one end or the other if you are shipping by air, to equalize the pressure, any truth to that? Tight lines and straight wraps. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
