I'm looking at the SU1418F or possibly something from the SUR line.
I know it is a popular blank so I'm hoping somebody can give me a rough opinion on how light are the tips on these rods? I need something that can detect the take of a Lake Sturgeon, which is pretty light. I'm probably casting 4oz most of the time so the rod should cast fine but I don't want to order something with a tip so stiff that I can't see a fish take. I'm currently using the 10' Heavy RDR downrigger blank, hoping for something with a bit more casting distance potential. Also looking at the SU1264F or something from the SUR line for 2oz cutbait for Burbot (similar situation as the Sturgeon) if anybody has any experience with that blank. We use the SU1264F and BP1266 for Sturgeon using circle hooks! The moderate action will allow the fish to take the bait and give you perfect hooks up almost every time :) The SU1264F will be the farther caster of the two.
A suggested starting point all meat and potatoes components. Karry -
circle hooks and sturgeon in the 45"-70" range are exactly what I'm looking at. How heavy of a sinker can you toss on that SU1264F? I'd be looking at 3oz, sometimes 4oz depending upon current. The specs say it goes up to 2oz on the top end - I occasion I can go that low but not always. Re: Rainshadow / Batson Surf Blanks?

For what its worth... I use the older model sur 1264 for stripper fishing and it throws 4 and 5 very well with little or no problem. Hope that helps.

if I was looking at a blank for a customer I would probably over look that one
Only cause it is rated for ( 2 ) oz Max If it can throw up to 5 why is it not marked at least up to 4 oz Bill - willierods.com Re: Rainshadow / Batson Surf Blanks?

Not my favorite way to fish, but I've heard good thing about the SU 1264 as a plunking rod for salmon. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
