More on action......again.

See, this is the kind of stuff that messes with my head. I've copied and pasted this from the NFC site. It has me confused again:
"If you want a 7'9" fast tip blank and you don't see it in the catalog, try an 8 foot plug rod, cut three inches off the bottom and order a custom decal." [www.northforkcomposites.com] Now, my belief, or rather, my understanding, has always been that when you trim a blank , you make the action slower. Is my understanding contrary to the above statement, or am I understanding the statement wrong? I'm assuming a "plug rod" would have a moderate action to start with. If my assumption is correct, a trimmed rod would move more to a slow action, wouldn't it? Re: More on action......again.

North Fork's plug blanks are extra fast. Of course, the precise statement confuses me a bit because they DO offer 7'9" models ... along with 8'2" and 8'8" models. However, it is overall a correct statement IF you start with an extra fast blank. It would be at least fast, if not still extra fast, if one were to trim 3" off an 8'0" blank. A minor trim like that won't have a huge effect. Cut 12" off the blank and it will be entirely another story. Re: More on action......again.

Makes sense Jim. If a "plug blank" is extra fast to start with it would become fast by trimming. I didn't know their plug blanks were xf. I thought I had something wrong, thanks for clearin me up. Re: More on action......again.

The plug rods you are referencing and salmon/steelhead plug rods, where the rod is set in a rod holder in a near horizontal position almost pointing at times with the plug. The light tip vibrates indicating if the plug is running right or if fouled with leaves or grass. The light tip is also required to maximize the swing of the plug as it works in the current.
Once the fish grabs the lure, you have a rainbow trout that acts like any other, only he is 3 to 20 lbs. Depending on the species and water conditions you can be soaking a plug the size of your smallest bass plugs to ones 4.5 inches in body length. All this said these are very versatile blanks with lots of info in earlier posts. Edited 2 time(s). Last edit at 07/27/2012 03:23PM by Spencer Phipps.
