Guides for pier rod

I am building 4 Calstar 550 rods for use on piers here in Texas. These rods I believe are rated at 20-80lb and will be used for shark and bull reds. Should I do a double over wrap on the guides? I normally build inshore rods so this is a first. My concerns are finish cracking around the guide feet. Also, If I do a double wrap and use nylon thread will the top layer retain it's color or should I still use NCP

To reduce cracking at the edges of the guide feet, grind/file the feet ends to a very shallow taper. This allows them to flex slightly and will greatly reduce such cracking.

A 20 to 80lb rating is pretty broad. Typically I never double over-wrapped guides until I got to 50lb and up tackle. Because these are heavy duty rods and I'm assuming weight is not a major concern, the slightly extra added by a double overwrap is neither here nor there. If it feels good, do it.
