I've got an eight foot G. Loomis 4wt Mahogany two piece fly rod. I want to build it as a light weigt spinning rig to b used for crappie fishing. I plan on using recoil guides and it will have a fairly long handle, maybe 11 inches. Has anyone done this with a flyrod blak? Doesit make sense to use it for a spinning rig. I don' see why it would be a problem. Steve Hartzell Lake Conroe - Willis, Texas Re: Fly blank with Spinnig setup

I have and it works wonderfully. I rebuilt a 8'6" 4pc 5 wt into my crappie rig and love it. Re: Fly blank with Spinnig setup

no problem doing this, many of us have used fly blanks for spinning (and downrigger) applications.
You'll end up with a much more limber/slow action blank compared to similar length spinning rod blank, which is perfect for a lot of spinning applications. If you search the site, you can find the formula for conversion of fly line weight to lure weight approximations. Terry Re: Fly blank with Spinnig setup

I have building many spinning rods on fly blank w4,w5,w10 using SIC MATCH guides, model "M" and i am happy with these rods. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
