Are there photos anywhere showing how to do a static distribution guide placement? Re: Related Question, Static Distribution

The magazine has had several articles that included photos. The article in the online library here doesn't, however. Not to the best of my recollection.

Please tell me if I'm understanding the procedure.
1. Glue on tip top 2. Place guides on blank 5 inches or so apart 3. Tie tip top to bench table, etc. 4. put on reel and run fly line through the temporarily positioned guides 5. place small weight on fly line 6. Flex the rod 7. adjust guides so they follow the contour of the blank. Am I correct in thinking that no matter how much flex (bend) I put in the rod the line should always follow a smooth contour of the blank? Re: Related Question, Static Distribution

Hi Barry. Can you posts the steps to making it? It looks easy to put together. Re: Related Question, Static Distribution

You'll do better if you hang the flexing weight from the tiptop, and then only hang enough weight on the line to keep it taut. Hanging the main weight from the tiptop allows the blank to flex normally as it was designed to do. If you put the main weight on the line, then you force the blank to take an unnatural bend depending on your guide positions.

To add to what Tom says.....if you load the rod by tying off to a fixed object like bench/table.....then your angle on the blank changes as you increase and decrease the load meaning the blank isn't loaded naturally. Better to tie the tip to a bucket and add water to load the blank. For lighter rods a water bottle will do.
I screw some PVC pipe to a wall on my porch as a holder. Better to do this work outside in case a blank gives way. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Re: Related Question, Static Distribution

I go with about 30 degrees up from the horizon. Then I load the rod so it has about an overall 90 degree bend. It is wise to decide ahead of time how much load you want to use. Think about what tippet and drag setting you would use. I tend to be extreme in my testing and you might wish to be a lot more conservative. Russ in Hollywood, FL. Bruce it was just Scrap pieces I assenbled on the spot. since replaced by a piece of Aluminum pipe srewed to the side of my cabinets. for surf rods I use a hitch mounted rack on my truck with about a 45 degree angle Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
