Double foot guide under wraps

What do you guys do with the extra threads when putting trim band on under wraps. I tried taping them on the blank longways but it usually gets wrapped up some how or another. It's driving me crazy wrapping 10 passes and then having to unwrap the other threads 10 times. There must be a simpler way.

Hi Brandon,
I just use tape or let it wind around. Tom posted a pic of an idea he had but I can't find it!! You can wind thread on a sewing bobbin, glue in a short rod and attach it to the rod with an elastic band, then just use what you need and cut it off. Would save on the amount of thread I waste as it's always better to have too much than not enough. I'm sure others will have more ideas and Tom will probably remember where the photo is. In any case don't let it stress you out or that will cause other mistakes.

Not to up to under wraps (dont need most of the time) therefore I use an empty bobin an some thread on it and keep it on the blank with ruber bands.
Kinda tricky...LOL

Brandon,
I normally cut trim thread to about a foot long or so.
Then, I tape both ends in place, as needed and wrap away. I do use a power wrapper, so I don't have my hands on the rod turning the blank near the wraps. No issue at all.

Roger

Thanks all. I think I will try attaching smaller bobbins somehow. I usually do it like you Roger, but I build mostly inshore rods that only have one DF'r. I am doing 5 long pier rods now where my method is just a headache.

Hello Brandon.

I use the blue painters tape and tape them on so I can pull them off do a couple turns then tape it back on with the same piece of tape.
Keeps it out of the way and can do all kinds of stuff using a bunch of colors taped on at different lengths so you don't have the all the tapes(one from each spool) getting tangled.

Tight Wraps.
