Thread ramp

I just wrapped a ramp made strictly of thread. My concern is if it will stay in place with just top coats of finish? The blank is a GTS70M so when hooked up to a nice fish there will be some flex in that area.
Any opinions or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Re: Thread ramp

Hi Craig
That area of flex would be so insignificant. I use a cork grip and sand the front end ( the ramp) to the shape you want, wrap the leather on the grip, I then undercoat the ramp with a light epoxy sand it perfectly smooth then wrap the pattern up the ramp and over the leather or eva or shink rubber about 5mm. one or 2 tops coats and hey presto' jobs done......building a ramp totally out of thread would take 100mtes or more.! plus you then have the worry that one day water will get in and destroy the dry thread underneath... hope that helps. Owen. Re: Thread ramp

I think you're right about the water getting in. These rods are going to be fished hard, several times a week. I should probably just keep it basic, so future repairs are easier. Re: Thread ramp

Thanks for the link Barry, I should have searched first. I just wrapped it to see if I liked it, and it looked good so I didn't want to cut it off. I was hoping for some validation that it may stay put with just top coats of finish...kind of had the idea that it wouldn't. Sorry, only registered users may post in this forum.
