Stripper Guide Location

I have built several casting rods using static guide placement. I am ready to build a 7' MH casting rod. I want to use static guide placement as before. However, I do not remember the guidelines for locating the stripper guide. The stripper is a #6 , the rest are # 4 micros. I have no problem determining the micro guide locations. Can someone suggest a starting point for the stripper guide ? Thanks.

I start with 22-24" from the reel face for a starting location. It normally does not change much from there.

Hi David,
Also see if you can get the line in the middle of the stripper before it's loaded, as the distance can vary with the reel type and size. With a size 6 striipper you might find it's a fair way out. If your using a low profile baitcaster you might be ok. I've just had a similar problem where I had to use a larger sized stripper than I intended to get an O'Quinn spiral to line up properly. If it's a fair way out might be an idea to do some test casting and see how it goes. The line comes off an overhead pretty straight so you might be surprised how far out you can go without having any detrimental effects.

I'll definitely tape and test cast. I have a 6'-9" M built with a # 6 stripper and 4's. However, it has a totally different action from this blank. I'll try using the 6'-9" rod stripper distance and move out 3" to start. Thanks for the replies.
